Transformation of hydrogel-based inverse opal photonic sensors from FCC to L[1.sub.1] during swelling
Article Abstract:
The first direct observation of the rhodamine B (RhoB)-labeled inverse opal hydrogel pH sensor using two-photon laser scanning fluorescence microscopy is presented and the observed pore mesostructure evolution is compared to the Bragg diffraction response and finite element analysis. It was found from two different cross-sections of the distorted face-centered cubic mesostructure, that the pores appear to both elongate along the sample normal direction and collapse along the sample parallel directions, consistent with 1-D swelling of the interlayer distance.

C80 encaging four different atoms: The synthesis, isolation, and characterizations of ScYErN at the rate of C80
Article Abstract:
The synthesis, isolation and spectroscopic characterizations of an endohedral fullerene with four heteroatoms encapsulated (ScYErN at the rate of C80) are described. The findings reveal that the carbon cage of ScYErN at the rate of C80 is assigned as [I.sub.h]-C80 and the four-membered ScYErN cluster is shown to rotate rapidly inside the fullerene cage and six electrons are transferred from the nuclear cluster ScYErN to the fullerene cage.
